Subepithelial connective tissue grafting is a common surgical procedure for covering exposed roots. The objective of the procedure is to:

• prevent further root exposure
• decrease or eliminate sensitivity
• decrease susceptibility to root caries
• improve appearance

Tissue is taken from healthy gum tissue in the palate and placed at the area of gum recession.
