Dental Implants

Dental Implants . . .

  • can be used to replace one or more missing teeth
  • are permanent replacements
  • look and function like natural teeth
  • preserve the jawbone where teeth have been lost
  • provide support to existing bridges
  • do not decay like natural teeth
  • are brushed and flossed in the same way as natural teeth
  • when properly maintained, can last a lifetime.

  • Implant therapy can take a few months and several appointments to complete, however, the final restoration can be almost like having your own teeth back!

Dental implants are the preferred method of replacing teeth that have been lost to periodontal disease, trauma, or failed root canal. When natural teeth are no longer present, the remaining teeth become unstable resulting in tooth shifting, bone loss and bite problems. As the bone deteriorates, changes in facial structure occur. Dental implants can halt the progression of bone loss and restore the natural smile.

Implants are a fixed solution to replacing one or more teeth. The implant is placed into the jaw bone and allowed to heal for several months to become integrated within the bone. After healing, impressions of the mouth are made, and models are made upon which the restorations are fabricated. A post is attached to the implant using a screw.

A metal and/or porcelain crown is made to closely replicate the shape and color of the natural tooth. The crown is attached to the post using a screw or cement. The diagram shows how the crown fits over the post.
